GASEOUS EFFLUENT MONITOR GEM-02

This device is intended for gamaspectrometric activity measurement of noble gases in nuclear power facilities effluents. Sampling proceeds via bypass and compressor, that leads required amount of sample to Mari-nelli beaker through aerosol and iodine filter. Semiconductor detector and measuring vessel are shielded with low-background lead.
Complete device is composed of two parts:

Measuring part
  • shielded pressurized measuring vessel with accurately defined volume
  • semiconductor HPGE detector ORTEC (50KeV – 2000KeV)
  • electrical cooling of the detector XCOOLER II
  • spectrometric measuring line (high voltage module, multichannel analyzer DigiDart or DSPEC), operating and supply elements, data communication components
  • electrically controlled valves
  • temperature and pressure sensors
  • aerosol and iodine filter
  • pressure source - compressor.

Evaluating part
  • evaluating PC with accessories (17“ LCD monitor), including control software shell and diagnostic software
  • ORTEC SW GammaVision spectroscopy software
  • operating processor unit and signal converters

Basic measurement principle
Regularly every 10 minutes air sample is withdrawn by bypass line. Accu-rate amount of sample is checked by pressure sensors and temperature of the air in the pressurized vessel is determined by platinum sensor. HPGE detector is placed under the pressurized Marinelli beaker. Analysis results from every measuring cycle are saved to data disk of evaluating PC and consequently summarized (1-hour spectra, 24-hour spectra). Result determines single radionuclides in measured air mass and gross volume activity.

Included Software
Software shell serves for basic measurement parameters settings, evaluation of analyses results, actual results presentation, online diagnostics of device components, communication with control unit PLC and measu-red data archive.
